Montana Cowboys and Cowgirls Saddle Up for the 2024 NFR

It's the beginning of December, and for most folks, that just means gearing up for Christmas festivities. But this has a different meaning if you're a rodeo fan.

December 5th is the start day of the National Finals Rodeo (NFR).  As the rodeo world gears up for the 2024 NFR in Las Vegas, Montana is sending some of its finest athletes to compete on the biggest, perfectly groomed dirt stage. From bareback riding to barrel racing, Montana's homegrown talent is ready to represent the Treasure State in style.

So, who will represent The Treasure State in Sin City?

Bareback Riding

Weston Timberman, a rookie from Columbus, is making waves by qualifying for his first NFR. Timberman heads into the event ranked 7th in earnings with $154,100 and will wear #48. Rodeo runs deep in his family—his father, Chris Timberman, won the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo in 2006. Additionally, Richmond Champion from Stevensville has secured his ninth qualification for the NFR, finishing in 15th place for bareback competitors.

Steer Wrestling

Helena's Ty Erickson is no stranger to the NFR, making his ninth appearance this year. The Montana Pro Rodeo Circuit Finals winner is currently ranked 10th in the world standings and will wear #116. Montana State alum Jesse Brown, now based in Oregon,  made the cut and is sitting 6th among steer wrestlers.

Saddle Bronc Riding

Melstone, MT local Sage Newman is heading to his fourth straight NFR, ranked 3rd after earning $187,940 this season. He is also a Montana State University grad and won the Yellowstone River Round-Up in Billings MT this year. 

Tie-Down Roping

Miles City's Haven Meged is riding high into his fifth NFR. The 2019 world champion had an incredible 2024 season, earning $223,380 and ranking 2nd in the world. Meged, who will wear #8, won the Bozeman Stampede this year and is ranked 5th in the qualification.

Barrel Racing

Lisa Lockhart, a legendary barrel racer originally from Circle, Montana, once again shows why she's one of the best in the business. With an incredible 18th consecutive NFR qualification, she enters the arena ranked 6th in the world standings, proudly wearing #60. 

Montana's Rodeo Spirit

Montana's rich rodeo heritage is alive and well as these competitors gear up for Las Vegas. With talent, grit, and a little Treasure State pride, Montana's athletes are set to make their mark on the 2024 NFR.
